About SOVTC

A. History

Songwe Vocational Training Centre (SOVTC) was formed in 2019 as a vocational training centre and registered by Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) on 07th February 2020 with registration number VET/SON/PR/2020/C/006. On February 2023 the centre was registered by National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTEVET) under provisions of National Council for Technical and Vocational Training Act No. 129 with registration number REG/NACTVET/0936P.

The Ccentre is located in Songwe Region, Mbozi District at Mlowo township. The purpose of our centre is to provide vocational training skills to youth in order to bridge the gap of theory and practical skills, which exist in the labour market due to the nature of curriculum from primary
School, College and University which tends to be more theoretical. Songwe Vocational Training Center provide training on the basic skills in different specialities to facilitate self-employment and hence reduce poverty, gender based violence, dependency and unemployment problems in the society. Though the Centre is located in Songwe region we invite applicants from all parts of the United Republic of Tanzania.

We aspire to be the best vocational educational training centre and a right choice for students seeking training on practical skills and entrepreneurship.

Our Mission

To design, develop and deliver high quality practical oriented training courses which are relevant to labour market requirement and that will enable graduates or trainees to apply their skills in workplace and their everyday life.

The core values of the Centre are:-Quality, Compassion, Dynamism, Diligence, Integrity, Innovation, Creativity, Respect, Environmental Care and Excellence.

C. Leadership and Management

I. Centre Principal

The Principal is the head of the Centre. He/she supervises all operations and ceremonial assemblies of Songwe Vocational Training Center in this name. The principal is appointed by the governing board on the recommendation of the director.

II. Centre Management

In order to ensure accountability, transparency and integrity, Songwe Vocational Training Centre maintains inclusive management structure, which includes: the Director, Principal, Deans, Academics, support staff and students’ representatives.

III. Governing Board

The governing board is the topmost organ of the centre. The following are members of the governing board who are appointed after every five years to the position;-
 Director
 Principal
 An Academic
 One staff representative (elected by support staff)
 Community Representative, and
 Other four external members from different professional specializations from whom the chairperson and secretary are appointed.
